During your roadtrip, you will be provided with a 4×4 with automatic transmission.
Exactly how much you spend will, of course, always vary a little, but we expect that you will spend about ± €500 per car on petrol/gasoline for the total trip.
Upon your arrival in Uganda, you will be met by our local partners. They will welcome you and provide a brief briefing before you begin your road trip. Our partners are always available during the trip should you encounter any issues with the car along the way.
Additionally, you can find all kinds of useful information in our app during your journey. Just before departure, you will also receive an invitation to join a WhatsApp group with all participants departing on the same date. You can use this group to communicate with each other, and a member of our team will always be available in case of an emergency.
Accidents can happen when you least expect them, which is why we recommend adding damage insurance to your registration. This insurance costs €10 per day per car. By selecting this insurance, you do not have to pay a deposit.
If you choose not to take the damage insurance, you must pay a security deposit of €750 before departure.
Below we have listed an estimate of the driving distances. Please note that in practice, these may vary depending on traffic, road conditions, breaks, weather, and any sightseeing stops along the way. The times indicated are average travel times and are subject to change.
Yes, during the booking process, you can indicate whether you wish to drive yourself or if you would prefer to travel with a driver. For an additional fee of €630, a driver will take the wheel for you. He will travel with you, and his overnight accommodations will be arranged along the way.
Your driver will speak English and know the area inside out. He will transport you safely from one destination to the next, often sharing interesting facts, making spontaneous stops, and offering tips that give your trip that little something extra.

If you choose to travel with lodges, you will have a bathroom en-suite.
Every lodge features an on-site restaurant, so after a long day of adventure, you can always enjoy a delicious meal. If you choose the lodge accommodation option, your breakfast is also included.
WiFi is generally available, mostly in the public areas.
If you choose a car with a rooftop tent, the following items are included:
Sleeping gear: A double mattress, sleeping bags, and pillows.
Camping gear: A camping table, stools, a cool box (non-electric), a table lamp, a shovel, and a jerrycan for water.
Cooking equipment: A cooking pot, pan, gas stove, plates, and cups.
No, if you choose a rooftop tent, you will not be able to use the pop-up roof during safaris.
The campsites are almost always located on the grounds of the lodges. This offers the experience of camping, with the lodge’s facilities within easy reach.
Sanitary Facilities & Dining: You will have access to shared bathrooms with toilets and showers. Additionally, you can make use of the lodge’s restaurant and bar. This means you can choose to cook for yourself at your tent or sit down for a freshly prepared meal.
Electricity: There are usually no power points directly at the campsite itself. however, you can easily charge your devices (phones, cameras) at the central power outlets in the lodge’s common areas.
Our recommendation: Bring a power bank for emergencies. Use a car charger so you can also charge your equipment while driving to your next destination.
On driving days, you will often pass through larger towns where you can stock up on supplies. Additionally, there are frequently local markets along the route where you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables. Since the cool box is unfortunately not actively refrigerated, we recommend buying groceries as you go. Of course, non-perishable products can be purchased in advance. This can be done at the start of your trip, for example in Kampala or Jinja.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to book the gorilla or chimpanzee trekking after your initial booking. Because there are a limited number of permits available for these activities, we need to know if you wish to include them at the time of your registration.
During your trip, you will visit the following national parks:
Lake Mburo (1 day)
Murchison Falls National Park (2 days)
Queen Elizabeth National Park (1 or 2 days)
Entrance fees for the national parks must be paid on-site. The costs for these are $40 – $45 per day per person, and $12 per day per car for the national parks. You will also have the opportunity to visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino trekking ($60 per person).
Yes, a self-drive safari is safe, provided you follow the park rules. The most important rules are: always stay inside the vehicle, maintain a safe distance from the animals, stick to the designated roads, and ensure you leave the park before dark.
Within the national parks, you can also choose to head out with a professional guide. For $20 per session (half-day), a guide will join you in your car and take you to the most beautiful spots and the best locations for spotting wildlife. You can arrange a guide at the park entrance.
Yes, there are two stunning boat safaris included as standard in the trip:
Murchison Falls National Park: You will cruise along the Nile toward the foot of the powerful waterfalls. Along the way, you’ll see hippos, crocodiles, and countless bird species.
Kazinga Channel (Queen Elizabeth Park): This trip offers one of the highest concentrations of hippos in the world. You also have an excellent chance of seeing buffaloes and elephants seeking refreshment at the water’s edge.
An international passport: Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your date of travel.
A visa: We will certainly send you an email after booking with all the relevant information regarding this.
Proof of Yellow Fever vaccination: This is a mandatory requirement for entry.
A (national) driving license: Your (standard) license is required for the self-drive.
It is important to have the correct vaccinations for your trip to Uganda. For all travelers, the Yellow Fever vaccination is mandatory. Additionally, it is recommended to get the Hepatitis A vaccine and an additional Polio booster.
Other vaccinations may be recommended by your GP, depending on your medical background. Therefore, please be sure to schedule a travel consultation with your doctor well in advance.

Want to travel with peace of mind? Then take out personal travel assistance insurance. If you already have existing travel insurance, it is a good idea to check whether it provides coverage for Uganda as well.
Cancellation Insurance €89
We recommend that everyone opts for cancellation insurance upon registration. Plans can change, sometimes forcing you to cancel a trip unexpectedly. You can review our flexible cancellation policy here.
Uganda, the currency used is the Ugandan Shilling (UGX). While many accommodations accept debit or credit cards, this is not the case everywhere. We therefore recommend always having cash on hand.
Having cash is also very practical for when you are on the road. It ensures you can always make purchases at local shops, markets, and smaller petrol stations.
You can withdraw cash upon arrival at the airport. Along your route, you will also find various banks and ATMs in the larger towns. Please note: a surcharge is usually applied every time you withdraw money.
Fuel: ± €500 per car for the entire road trip.
Food and drink: On average, about €20–€25 per person per day (breakfast is included only if you choose the lodge option).
National Park fees: $12 per car per day and $45 per person per day. For example, for a two-night stay in Murchison Falls National Park with two people in one vehicle, the total cost would be $204.
Other expenses: These include tips and optional extra activities.
We offer a planned road trip, which means it is not possible to adjust the trip duration or the itinerary. You are, of course, free to extend your trip on your own initiative: for example, by staying a few extra days in Uganda after the road trip or by traveling on to another country.
Within 10 days of your registration, you will need to pay a deposit of 35% to confirm your road trip. After that, you have until 45 days before departure to change your options and pay the remaining balance. If you make any changes, the deposit will be automatically recalculated.
Additionally, shortly before departure, you will also need to pay a security deposit if you have not opted for the damage waiver for your car.
Various payment methods are available. Has your payment failed? If so, an error likely occurred when entering the reference number, or you may have exceeded your account’s transaction limit.
These conditions are available to everyone who books early. They allow you to reschedule your road trip to a different period within the same season (subject to availability) or to cancel free of charge until the end of the Superflex period:

We recommend purchasing a (local) SIM card for your trip to Uganda. The best time to do this is upon arrival at the airport. This ensures you are always reachable and can easily contact our local partners in case of any issues on the road. While an e-SIM is also an option, it often has less reliable coverage, especially in more remote areas.
Mobile network is limited in remote regions, such as the National Parks. WiFi is generally available at the lodges, primarily in the common areas, though it can sometimes be more restricted in the guest rooms.
Pack lightweight clothing for during the day and warm layers for the evenings in higher-altitude areas. Don’t forget sturdy hiking boots and rain gear.

Uganda has a tropical climate, but the weather varies by region due to significant differences in altitude. Generally, the dry seasons run from late May through September and from December through February. These periods are ideal for safaris and hiking, as the roads are more accessible and wildlife is easier to spot.
