It is always possible to cancel your trip. You can find the general cancellation conditions here. You can also rely on the Superflex cancellation conditions. More info under the FAQ ‘What are the Superflex cancellation conditions?
The Superflex cancellation conditions are available for anyone who books early.
You can reschedule your trip to another period within the same season (depending on availability) or cancel for free before a certain date, which is clearly stated on the registration form.
If the deadline to use the Superflex conditions has passed, the general cancellation conditions apply.
Depending on availability, you can add or remove most options (except cancellation insurance) until a few weeks before departure. Generally, we follow a first-come, first-served principle, so early decision-makers are at an advantage.
Within 5 days after your registration, you must pay a deposit to confirm your trip. After that, you still have until a few weeks before departure to modify your options and pay the remaining balance. If you make changes, the deposit is automatically recalculated.
There are various payment options, including Bancontact, Mastercard, iDeal. If you have a Travelbase voucher, you can use it as well.
If your payment fails, it is likely due to an incorrect reference number or exceeding your account limit.
During your trip, you will visit the following national parks:
Entrance fees for the national parks must be paid on-site. The costs for these are $40 - $45 per day per person, and $12 per day per car for the national parks. You will also have the opportunity to visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino trekking ($60 per person).
Yes, a self-drive safari is safe, provided you follow the park rules. The most important rules are: always stay inside the vehicle, maintain a safe distance from the animals, stick to the designated roads, and ensure you leave the park before dark.
Within the national parks, you can also choose to head out with a professional guide. For $25 per session (half-day), a guide will join you in your car and take you to the most beautiful spots and the best locations for spotting wildlife. You can arrange a guide at the park entrance.
We recommend purchasing a (local) SIM card for your trip to Uganda. The best time to do this is upon arrival at the airport. This ensures you are always reachable and can easily contact our local partners in case of any issues on the road. While an e-SIM is also an option, it often has less reliable coverage, especially in more remote areas.
Mobile network is limited in remote regions, such as the National Parks. WiFi is generally available at the lodges, primarily in the common areas, though it can sometimes be more restricted in the guest rooms.
Our roadbook contains all the information you need to ensure a successful road trip.
You will find the complete itinerary in it, including all the hotspots and hidden gems that aren't featured in major travel guides. The recommended places have been carefully selected to offer plenty of choice, but you are free to plan your days as you wish.
What's more, our roadbook contains lots of great places where you can grab something to eat or drink.
Accidents can happen when you least expect them, which is why we recommend adding damage insurance to your registration. This insurance costs €20 per day per car. By selecting this insurance, you do not have to pay a deposit.
If you choose not to take the damage insurance, you must pay a security deposit of €750 before departure.
Yes, during the booking process, you can indicate whether you wish to drive yourself or if you would prefer to travel with a driver. For an additional fee of €630, a driver will take the wheel for you. He will travel with you, and his overnight accommodations will be arranged along the way.
Your driver will speak English and know the area inside out. He will transport you safely from one destination to the next, often sharing interesting facts, making spontaneous stops, and offering tips that give your trip that little something extra.
Below we have listed an estimate of the driving distances. Please note that in practice, these may vary depending on traffic, road conditions, breaks, weather, and any sightseeing stops along the way. The times indicated are average travel times and are subject to change.
Every lodge features an on-site restaurant, so after a long day of adventure, you can always enjoy a delicious meal. If you choose the lodge accommodation option, your breakfast is also included.
WiFi is generally available, mostly in the public areas.
More information about the lodges can be found on our seperate page.
On driving days, you will often pass through larger towns where you can stock up on supplies. Additionally, there are frequently local markets along the route where you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables. Since the cool box is unfortunately not actively refrigerated, we recommend buying groceries as you go. Of course, non-perishable products can be purchased in advance. This can be done at the start of your trip, for example in Kampala or Jinja.
The campsites are almost always located on the grounds of the lodges. This offers the experience of camping, with the lodge's facilities within easy reach.
Our recommendation: Bring a power bank for emergencies. Bring and use a car charger so you can also charge your equipment while driving to your next destination.
No, if you choose a rooftop tent, you will not be able to use the pop-up roof during safaris.
If you choose a car with a rooftop tent, the following items are included:
Sleeping gear: A double mattress, sleeping bags, and pillows.
Camping gear: A camping table, stools, a cool box (non-electric), a table lamp, a shovel, and a jerrycan for water.
Cooking equipment: A cooking pot, pan, gas stove, plates, and cups.
On arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by our local partners, rangers or guides. They will greet you and give you a brief introduction before your trip begins.
You will also be given access to a chat group with all the other participants departing on the same date just before you set off. You can use this group to chat with each other or with our team.
Uganda, the currency used is the Ugandan Shilling (UGX). While many accommodations accept debit or credit cards, this is not the case everywhere. We therefore recommend always having cash on hand.
Having cash is also very practical for when you are on the road. It ensures you can always make purchases at local shops, markets, and smaller petrol stations.
You can withdraw cash upon arrival at the airport. Along your route, you will also find various banks and ATMs in the larger towns. Please note: a surcharge is usually applied every time you withdraw money.
Uganda has a tropical climate, but the weather varies by region due to significant differences in altitude. Generally, the dry seasons run from late May through early October and from December through February. These periods are ideal for safaris and hiking, as the roads are more accessible and wildlife is easier to spot.
Pack lightweight clothing for during the day and warm layers for the evenings in higher-altitude areas. Don’t forget sturdy hiking boots and rain gear.
After booking your trip, you will receive access to a more detailed packing list.

Before your trip to Uganda, it’s important to have the right vaccinations. Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory for all travelers. In addition, Hepatitis A and an extra polio vaccination are recommended.
Other vaccinations may be advised by your doctor depending on your medical history.
Uganda is also considered a risk area for malaria. Therefore, it is recommended to use malaria preventive medication, in addition to good mosquito protection.
Regarding vaccinations and malaria prevention medication, we strongly recommend to visit a travel clinic or doctor for personalized advice; they will choose the medication that best suits you.
